About Us
This project aims to respond to the need to create tools and mechanisms to support the process of internationalization of companies, particularly for the Chinese market, in sectors with export potential for that market, such as molds, plastics, wine, food, pharmaceuticals, technology, water and the environment. The central component of this process will be an e-commerce platform, which will network the target businesses and markets. Allowing the entrance of companies of the Central Region, giving priority to the companies of the Region of Coimbra, in the Chinese market at reduced costs, to avoid the need of physical infrastructures. In addition to the e-commerce platform, there will be a set of concrete training actions aimed at companies on the particular characteristics of Chinese markets (economic, psychological and sociological characteristics), which will allow them to better understand their peculiarities, contributing to an internationalization strategy solid and effective, with a view to achieving concrete and measurable results, ensuring that the proposed objectives are achieved.
The E-Coimbra Project results from the recognition that China has a very significant potential for the growth of companies and sectors in the Central region, as the Chinese market has increased imports from both Portugal and the target sectors of this project. China is the world's second largest economy, with very high and consistent GDP growth rates over the last few years, and has a unique population of the world (about 19% of the world's population), where the middle class assumes greater relevance in terms of market potential for Portuguese companies. In addition, there is the recognition that the processes of physical internationalization of companies, especially for distant markets, require levels of investment that most companies can not afford. At the same time, the enormous growth of e-commerce in recent years, as well as the increased ease and reliability of operationalizing these types of business transactions, is also well known, as well as the fact that China is the world market leader in e-commerce, with online sales exceeding in 2013, US $ 5.7 billion and with growth forecasts very high. In Portugal, e-commerce is also in great development and last year reached 50 billion euros.
